Old Fire Truck by Sheri Jones

Old Fire Truck by Sheri Jones
9 x 12 oil on Raymar canvas panel
I painted this plein air in Grapevine, Texas. We had a gathering of the Outdoor Painters Society on Saturday. There must have been over thirty painters there. The weather was outstanding, reaching 80 degress. I have painted a number of old vehicles and it sure helps when you are out on the streets painting. It was great to get outside and enjoy the warm winter day.
This painting is available for purchase. $125.00

Palo Duro Canyon by Sheri Jones

Palo Duro Canyon by Sheri Jones
20 x 24 oil on wood panel
I created this from a study I painted at Palo Duro Canyon. This is in the panhandle of Texas outside of Amarillo. Palo Duro Canyon is 120 miles long, up to 20 miles wide, and up to 820 feet deep, making it the United States' second largest canyon.
I had a request from a niece to create a painting for her dorm room. She is from Amarillo and wanted one of the canyon. So Happy Birthday Callie! This one's for you. Love you.

Stargazer Lily by Sheri Jones

Stargazer Lily by Sheri Jones
14 x 11 oil on Raymar canvas panel
The highlight of my Friday was going to the grocery store to buy flowers for the weekend. They were fully stocked and had a wide variety to choose from. I was excited to get started with this one. The background started out as a deep red and it wasn't working. I changed it to green and that really made the lilies pop. I painted this with a lot of thick paint letting the layer of red show thru. This painting is available for purchase. $150.00

A Jar of Peppers by Sheri Jones

A Jar of Peppers
10x10 oil on canvas
With cooler temperatures, I enjoy gathering items for still lifes and working indoors. I found the peppers in the frig and thought their bright colors would be a good subject for today's project. This was a fun challenge creating the clear glass of the mason jar. The cloth seemed to pull it all together.

Hunter Park Sunrise by Sheri Jones

Hunter Park Sunrise by Sheri Jones

22 x 28 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I recreated this from a field study painted at Hunter Park, north of Granbury on Lake Granbury. We had a productive day here with a painting at every turn. Don't you just love days like that? This was created in the comforts of my studio on a cool winter day. To me this is the next best thing to painting plein air. This painting is available for purchase through CFAI.

"Peppers" Demonstration By Sheri Jones

I'm getting closer, but will keep working.

More work on the defining the platter and developing the peppers.

I start in on the peppers and platter working quickly.

I start adding color quickly blocking the green pepper in and the green cloth.

I use a thin wash of Alizaran Crimson and mineral spirits to tone the canvas. I then used a mix of the Alizaran Crimson and Ultramarine Blue and start the drawing and laying in my darks.

"Peppers" Demonstration by Sheri Jones
This is a photo of my inspiration for "Peppers". I painted this in the studio from a set up positioned on a low table. I had an overview of the arrangement.

Stacked by Sheri Jones

Stacked by Sheri Jones
11 x 14 oil on canvas
I was inspired to paint still lifes after seeing Beth Prichard do a demo at our local art meeting.
It's so beneficial to see how someone approaches and executes a painting. I always learn something and its so inspiring. I bought the fruit to eat, but they made nice models for me. I brought the stacked bowls in for their bright rich colors. This painting is available for purchase $150.00

Back Road Creek by Sheri Jones

Backroad Creek by Sheri Jones
16 x 20 oil on canvas
This painting was inspired from a trip to Willow City Loop last spring. This is a rural area in the Texas Hill Country. We were taking roads less travelled and enjoyed discovering this backroad creek. This 22 mile loop will take you on one of the most beautiful areas in Texas. When blue bonnets are at their prime this is a must see. I created this with a palette knife.

It was painted with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint.
