I found this colorful bush on my way to paint to the Marina on Lake Granbury. This was the brightest subject I could find on this gray and overcast morning.

I painted this on a rural road I like to return to often. It's a lovely area with ranch homes separated by acres and acres. The hills are rolling and when you get up high you can see for miles. The distance and fall color are what attracted me to this scene.
The best view for this scene was right in the middle of the road. I painted from across the road on the river bank instead. This was at Palo Dura Canyon in the panhandle of Texas. We traveled to Palo Duro Canyon last weekend and rented a room on the rim. It didn't take me ten minutes after arriving before I had the paint box out and I was painting. The sun was setting quickly and the paint was flying. How exciting!

Trumpet vine
10 x10 oil on canvas
This was completed at a three day workshop with Qiang Huang. I learned a lot about dramatic lighting and setting up a still life. Look for new work with influences from him. He is part of the Daily painter movement, posting a painting a day. He works a full time job and manages to paint at night. Amazing.

I painted this while participating in Last Friday Gallery Night in Granbury. I was painting at Stringfellow's Restaurant by the window. A storm blue in and the clouds got darker and darker. Between that and the romantic light in the restaurant it was a challenge. To top it off the electricity went out. It was time to go but I still managed to paint a bright happy picture.
