Kay's Garden by Sheri Jones

Kay's Garden by Sheri Jones
8x10 oil on canvas
I painted this during the Paint Historic Waxahachie event.  It was a  colorful spot that caught my eye. Kay's Mom was the actual gardener and had quite an eclectic collection of garden art and beautiful flowers.  Kay was sweet and brought me ice tea.  The town has been very gracious and welcoming.

This painting will be on displayed at the Ellis County Art Association and Museum, 501 W. Main, Waxahachie, Texas. All the artwork created during the week will be moved over to Chatauqua Auditorium, Friday, June 3rd and will be on display there until

Sunday, June 6, 10 - 4.

Sunflowers and Carrots by Sheri Jones

Sunflowers and Carrots by Sheri Jones
14x7 oil on canvas

This was my victim during the quick draw event in Waxahachie. We painted on the count house square in conjunction with the Farmer's Market. They had fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, art and much more. I purchased the flowers and carrots and set up a still life.  It didn't take long before the 40 mile per hour winds knocked this over. I tried weighing it down, propping things behind it, but it kept blowing over.  I finally put it in the bushes. It didn't blow over any more, but it altered my still life.  I stuck with the original plan and this was the result.  O the joys of plein air painting!

For Sale by Sheri Jones

For Sale by Sheri Jones
9x12 oil on Raymar canvas panel.
I created this during the "Paint The Glen" paint out in Glen Rose, Texas. I set up in front of this very small park to paint. Crump park is squeezed in between two buildings and was built in honor of George Crump, a Somervell County Judge from 1980-1990. It is well maintained with beautiful plants and flowers.   I liked the contrast between the blue building and the colorful flowers. I found Glen Rose to be very inspirational and would love to return soon. This painting sold.

Back Door by Sheri Jones

Back Door by Sheri Jones
12 x 9 oil on Raymar canvas panel

I created this during a paint out in Glen Rose, Texas yesterday. This was a back door to one of the businesses on the square.  In my mind there was a paintings at every turn and a lot of inspiration. It was great seeing my painting pals too.

I'm now gearing up for a paint out in Waxahacie. It starts next Satuday,  with a quick draw on the court house square.  They will auction them off soon after.  This kicks off the week long event with a show and sale on June 5th.

Rose of Sharon by Sheri Jones

Rose of Sharon by Sheri Jones
14x7 oil on canvas
The Rose of Sharon is from the hibiscus family and also know as Althea. It grows in a bush form and I have them all over my yard.  I painted this plein air and alla prima.  The weather was picture perfect with temperatures in the 70's.  It was great to be outside and in my garden on such a beautiful day.
This is available for purchase. $150.00

Zinnias in Bloom by Sheri Jones

Zinnias in Bloom by Sheri Jones
14 x 7 oil on canvas
This was inspired from a garden in Johnson City, Texas. I was in town painting at the Lavendar Farm Paint out last year.  The zinnias caught my eye and I quickly turned the car around to snap a few pictures. The blue roofs were a bonus and really added to the scene.   This is available for purchase through Rising Stars Art Gallery, Mineral Wells, Texas

Beets by Sheri Jones

Beets by Sheri Jones
14 x 7 oil on canvas
This was created for the Daily Paintworks Challenge. This week it was 'Paint your Vegetable Challenge."  I bought the beets because of their lacy leaves and bright red stalks.  I didn't really buy them to eat, but I gave it a go and cooked them.  I added a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar and feta cheese to them.   I think I will stick to painting beets.  Seriously, does anyone know a good way to cook  and prepare them? Maybe it's a required taste?
This painting is avaiable for purchase.

Poppies in the Park by Sheri Jones

Poppies in the Park by Sheri Jones
24x20 oil on gallery wrapped canvas
I created this from a photo I took while painting in the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens.  Poppies are cool weather flowers and they are just about gone for the season. I walked through the Gardens this week and only saw a few. I did see a lot of other spring flowers in bloom and took more photos. I'm inspired and feel sure there are more garden paintings to come.

Soft Morning Light by Sheri Jones

Soft Morning Light by Sheri Jones
36x24 oil on canvas
I painted a smaller version of this working from a photo. It is always helpful to work out the kinks in a smaller format before going large.  I dropped the horizon line with this one and do like it more. I was thrilled when I drove up on this scene and glad I had my camera.  The color was amazing. This painting is available for purchase. $450.00

Morning Sunshine by Sheri Jones

Morning Sunshine by Sheri Jones
14x11 oil on canvas
This painting was inspired from a photo I took on my way to work. I'm always scouting new painting locations and knew there were bluebonnets blooming on some of the back roads. I arrived at this spot just as the sun was rising.  I love the orange glow of the sun against the blue of the bluebonnets.

Bluebonnet Sunrise by Sheri Jones

Bluebonnet Sunrise by Sheri Jones
24x18  Oil on canvas
This was inspired from a photo I took in Willow City loop. We found fields and fields of wildflowers there.  The bluebonnets were at their peak and very lush.  We didn't get the rain we needed and this year the crop was thin.  I am happy I have such great reference material to work from.    This is available for purchase thru Dutch Art Gallery, Dallas, TX
