Sunflowers Forever

I know Texas Ag plants sunflowers in the Ennis county area, but was not sure where.  They rotate the crops yearly. Thanks to a post from my friend, Happy I was able to find them. We found a quiet road with a shade tree surrounded by of large fields of them.  I was in heaven.

Daffodil's are one of the 1st flowers that kick off spring fever. I found the dappled light on the plants appealing and knew I needed to paint it. It was a good subject for my "flowers gone wild" series.

The cactus flower continue to inspire me.  This is part of my "flowers gone wild" series. I quickly sketch the design I want with a brush. It's when I pick up the palette knife is when the fun begins.  This is filled with texture and color.

I tried a different approach with this painting. I wanted to keep the background colorful and loose. I found the contrasting colors of the larkspur and sunflowers eye stopping. I applied the paint with a palette knife, creating the texture I was going for.

I had another opportunity to paint on the Brazos river in Granbury.  The path way on the bank of the river first caught my attention. The wild thistle plants added the color I was looking for.  This was another chance to push color and design.
