Anna May's Tractor by Sheri Jones

Anna May's Tractor by Sheri Jones
8x10 oil on canvas

Anna May has a beautiful farm in Paluxy, Texas and was kind enough to let us paint there. My friends, Terri Moore and Jill Randle were out painting one afternoon and drove by this place. We painted in her flower garden and took lots of photo's while. This tractor was in the back field and calling my name.  I'm so happy I finally painted it. This is available for purchase. $125.00

Yellowstone by Sheri Jones

Yellowstone by Sheri Jones
11x14 oil on canvas
This is a landscape painting I did in Kaye Franklin's workshop in Granbury.  I used my photo for reference from my trip to Yellowstone. Yellowstone is America's first National Park established in 1872. I was fortunate to visit the park a couple of years ago, but we only saw a fraction of the park. I would love to return and spend time painting all it has to offer. It has some incredible landscape and scenery.  This painting is available for purchase. $150.00

Three Oranges by Sheri Jones

Three Oranges by Sheri Jones
9x12 oil on canvas
This is another vibrant still life I painted in the Kaye Franklin workshop last week. I love her use of color and learned a few new tricks. I like how this turned out with it's warm colors and soft edges.  She was kind, but firm with gentle with words of encouragement. My friends, Joyce Thomas, Margie Whittington, Vickie Guthrie, Beth Prichard, Carol Lee and Jo Shaffer all attended. It was a joyful event for us.  This is available for purchase. $125.00

My Studio

My Studio and where all the paint slinging takes place!
I love painting outside, but with my schedule most of my painting is done here. The room is a frog (finished room over garage) and works perfectly for me.  I can make a mess and walk away!  I usually have 2 - 3 paintings going at once.  The peg board is a great holding place for works under way.
 Where do you paint?

Zinnias and Oranges by Sheri Jones

Zinnias and Oranges by Sheri Jones
9x12 oil on canvas
This is another painting I did in the Kay Franklin's workshop this week.  It is  nice to mix things up and switch to a learning mode. She did a demo of this with pastels. She started it with a nice dark abstract design, laying colors on top of each other. It was fun to translate the pastel demo to oil painting for me.  I used the palette knife and lots of colorful paint. This is avaiable for purchase. $125.00

Zinnias on Green by Sheri Jones

Zinnias on Green by Sheri Jones
14x11 oil on canvas
I am taking a three day workshop with Kay Franklin at the Shanley house in Granbury. She does some incredible paintings and makes it look so easy. She is a great teacher and if you ever get a chance to study under her, take advantage of it. Plus she is a really nice person.
The Shanley House is a wonderful old buiding where members of Lake Granbury Art Association paint and sell their work.
We all painted the same set-up, but with different results.  It is so inspiring to work with other artist and learn new techniques.  It's been great workshop so far. This is available for purchase. $150.00

Summer Pickins by Sheri Jones

Summer Pickins by Sheri Jones
16x12 oil on canvas
I painted this in the studio after gathering sunflowers from around the neighborhood. The large one is from my garden and the smaller flowers are from a vacant lot.  To me sunflowers are bright and happy and make great models.  The peaches were sweet little models too. They are long gone and were delicious! I created this with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint. It is available for purchase. $150.00

Cherry Picker by Sheri Jones

Cherry Picker by Sheri Jones

14x18 oil on canvas

I have been driving past this old truck for weeks. It's in downtown Ft.Worth and I loved how the morning light cast a beautiful glow on the cab. The sun is low at that time of day and there is still some soft light. After driving by it at different times of the day, early morning worked best for me. I finally took a few pictures of it and I am glad I did. The cherry picking arm has been folded over and tucked in. I think it may be getting ready to go to work. This is available for purchase. $250.00

Top Heavy by Sheri Jones

Top Heavy by Sheri Jones
14x7 oil on canvas
I created this in my garden early in the morning.  This plant is in front of our aged wooden fence. The gray of the wood makes the yellow in the sunflower pop!  I love painting outside and this was a real treat to create.
This painting is available for purchase. $125.00

Around the Cottonwood by Sheri Jones

Around the Cottonwood by Sheri Jones

11x14 oil on canvas

This was inspired from a photo I took during a painting adventure on the river. It was an inspiring morning with a painting at every turn. I was in the comfort of my studio but still inspired by my recent memories spent outside. I was attracted to the sprinkles of light and shadows around the old cottonwood. I created this with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint.
This is available for purchase thru Dutch Art Gallery, Dallas, TX

On the Sunny Side by Sheri Jones

On the Sunny Side by Sheri Jones

I painted this in my garden the other day. This is in the front yard and seems to get the best sun. Everything grows bigger and better in this garden. My sunflowers are especially happy with the warm Texas sun in their face.  This is available for purchase. $100.00

Tools of My Trade by Sheri Jones

Tools of My Trade by Sheri Jones

I created this from a still life set up in my studio. It is for the Daily Paint Works weekly challenge. I actually made it before the week was over! There is no deadline and anyone can participate. Check it out and find one that will challenge you.  I enjoy these little challenges because I am painting things, I wouldn't normally paint.  This is available for purchase. $150.00

Sandy Front by Sheri Jones

Sandy River Front
10x8 oil on canvas
I created this on the banks of the Brazos River in Pecan Plantation outside of Granbury. I was struck by the morning sun and the long shadows it created around the trees and bushes. This was the second of three paintings I did that morning.  I get so excited when I finally go to paint  outside it makes me work even faster.  I created this with a palette knife with swift happy strokes.  This is available for purchase $125.00

Texas Cottonwood by Sheri Jones

Texas Cottonwood by Sheri Jones
14x7 oil on canvas
I painted this on Friday in Pecan Plantation in Granbury. Pecan Plantation is a gated community with the Brazos River winding through it.  We painted on the banks of the river along a tree line.  It was a hot morning with temperatures rising to 100. The longer I painted, the warmer I got, the warmer my palette got.  I must admit I embellished this with strong color and thick paint.  I love painting outside even in the heat!
This painting is available for purchase. $125.00

Brazos River Beach by Sheri Jones

Brazos River Beach by Sheri Jones
8x10 oil on canvas
This little gem was created on the beach at Brazos River, outside of Granbury. I met my friend Joyce Thomas there this morning.  We met in the early morning trying to beat the heat.  It was in the mid 80's when we got there and rose to the high 90's by the time we left.  As long as we stayed in the shade it was wasn't too bad.  This painting is available for purchase. $100.00
