A Field of Sunshine

16x20 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I continue to explore the brilliant sunflower fields.  It has given me a chance to push shapes and color. I wanted to portray this in a softer color palette.

Daffodil Mix

14x11 oil on wood panel

Daffodil's are one of the 1st flowers that kick off spring fever. I found the dappled light on the plants appealing and knew I needed to paint it. It was a good subject for my "flowers gone wild" series.

The cactus flower continue to inspire me.  This is part of my "flowers gone wild" series. I quickly sketch the design I want with a brush. It's when I pick up the palette knife is when the fun begins.  This is filled with texture and color.

I created a new series focusing on shapes, marks and colors. It all started when I set up an easel on my patio.  I paint in the garden surrounded by beautiful colors and shapes.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Spring Trail, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Spring Trail

12x9 on ampersand board

The delightful painting was inspired from the banks of the Brazos river.  The wild flowers provided pops of color.

Spending time in nature, painting, gathering ideas and observing are part of my process. I came home filled with ideas and created this.

River Impressions, New Contemporary Landcape Painting by Sheri Jones

River Impressions

8x10 oil on canvas

I had another opportunity to paint on the Brazos river in Granbury.  The path way on the bank of the river first caught my attention. The wild thistle plants added the color I was looking for.  This was another chance to push color and design.

Loving on Rosie, New contemporary Pet Portrait by Sheri Jones

Loving on Rosie

10x8 oil on linen panel

Now, during these times of required stay-at-home guidelines and pent-up frustrations, I cherish my precious pet, Rosie who provides us with unconditional love and happiness.  Making the decision to bring home our Mini Aussie during this time was the best decision we could have made.  We were fortunate to adopt her at 10 weeks old in early February before the Covid-19 pandemic had set in. She is helping us get through the isolation period and will help us have good memories of this difficult time.

This is Rosie enjoying a belly rub in the warm sunlight.

This will be part of an on-line show centered on the Covid 19 pandemic with Dutch Art Gallery.

On a Sunny Day

11x14 oil on canvas

While out on a walk I saw this pink house and took a photo. I've had the image for years and stumbled on it recently.  I liked the pink house against the spring greens. You can tell the homeowner loves their little cottage.

Morning Light Show, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Morning Light Show

12x16 oil on linen panel

I created this as a demo for the Mansfield Art Association.  When planning this painting I did a value study and a small color study. (see below) I've also created a 9x12 of the same scene. When I put so much in the planning the execution is a spontaneous reaction.I touched it up a bit in the studio, signed  it and called it finished.

On a Rural Route, New Contemporary Landscape Paintngs by Sheri Jones

On a Rural Route

8x10 oil on canvas

My goal with this small study was to focus on the values of each shape. It forced me to create shapes with values attached. It was a fun practice and one I picked up from a friend, Beth Eschbach. She provided a demo with the Lake Granbury Art Association on values. It is always inspiring to see another artist's process.

A Ride in the Country

We recently took a drive just to see if I could find future painting locations. This is a great place with low traffic and sweeping views.  Painting it gave me a  chance to slow down and enjoy the country life.

Painting on location is a great way to gather information for future paintings. This was inspired from a painting site on the banks of Lake Granbury. It is so helpful and when developing new ideas and color choices.

Lily Garden Sunrise, Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Lily Garden Sunrise

20x20 oil on canvas

I created this from a couple of small studies I created at Clark Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. I did ramp up the colors and texture.  Combining the warms and cool colors together was a balancing act.
