I was fortunate enough to take a workshop with Jill Carver at El Tesoro Camp in Granbury, Texas recently. There were 15 friends and fellow artist that joined in the fun. 

We were painting on a creek bed and I found inspiration in every direction.   We explored black and white studies inspired by the Notan theory. 

I used acrylic paint in gray scale as an underpainting, laying in the design. I then mixed my colors and divided them by value on the palette.  

I painted this in the studio, trying to apply what she taught us.

I painted this today from an old bridge overlooking the Brazos River in Granbury, Texas.  It was a beautiful sunny, but breezy day.  I met my friend Joyce Thomas in her neighborhood at Pecan Plantation for a final hoo-raw. She is moving to the metroplex and away from some of our favorite painting spots. This was painted with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint.
