A Pair of Pears by Sheri Jones

A Pair of Pears by Sheri Jones
7 x 5 oil on canvas panel
This was painted from a photo I took at my sister-in-laws place in Alabama. Fresh fruit growing right out the back door is a real treat and one we took advantage of. I painted this with the palette knife and lots of paint.

Roses from the Garden by Sheri Jones

Roses from the Garden
7 x 5 oil on canvas
The roses are winding down their blooms with the Texas heat bearing down on them. So I took advantage of them while I could. Painting still lifes in the studio is a great alternative to plein air work. Painting from life forces you to work fast, before your elements change. I think the results are spontaneous and fresh.

VW Van by Sheri Jones

VW Van by Sheri Jones
8 x 16 oil on canvas
Isn't this a blast from the past? We have owned a couple of these vans and when I saw this one I whipped a u-turn and went back to this little snow cone stand and took some photos. I painted a lot of this with a palette knife, but used brushes too. Painting this one was a fun ride.

Nicole in the Garden

Nicole in the Garden
12 x 16 oil on canvas
This is my friend Nicole who posed for us at a gathering with the Outdoor Painter's Society in Granbury, Texas. We painted her then, but took photos for studio work. I used a lot of mineral spirits to drip the paint. I like the effect I acheived with this technique.

Forty Something Ford by Sheri Jones

Forty Something Ford by Sheri Jones
12 x 16 oil on canvas panel
This old ford was setting outside a business in one of the small towns we drove thru on our summer vacation. It was like the towns proud still life. I knew I had to stop and snap some pictures on the way back. I think it is a 46 Ford, but not for sure. I painted most of it with my palette knife and lots of paint.

52 Chevy by Sheri Jones

52 Chevy by Sheri Jones
11 x 14 oil on canvas
This painting was inspired from a photo I took in Ft. Worth. I pass this truck every day on my way home from work and knew I had to paint it. You can find these old relics everywhere if you are looking for them. In fact there was one just a block over from this one. Now my husband has one to restore and is getting ready to move it in my garage. I hope he saves room for my car.

In Storage by Sheri Jones

In Storage by Sheri Jones
11 x 14 oil on canvas

We have been out looking at old trucks for my husband to restore. We went to this place and the guy had old cars in various stages of restoration. These two were finished and tucked away for protection from the elements. It was a fun place to visit and I have lots of ideas for new paintings.

Old Rusty by Sheri Jones

Old Rusty by Sheri Jones
9 x 12 oil on canvas panel
This was painted in Waxahachie during the paint out last week. This bike had seen better days, but made a nice still life. There were a lot of curious locals stopping by to see my progress and offering words of encouragement while I painted it.

Mama and Pepes Restaurant by Sheri Jones

Mama and Pepes Restaurant by Sheri Jones
5 x 7 oil on canvas
I painted this in the Waxahachie paint out last Thursday. This little restaurant is new and very near the court house. While I was painting it I had a number of people come up and sat right behind me. After talking with them I discovered most were there to attend court. I think I distracted them while they waited for their date.

Jeanne's Garden by Sheri Jones

Jeanne's Garden by Sheri Jones
9 x 12 oil on canvas panel
This was painted in a beautiful garden just outside of the town of Glen Rose. Artist from Granbury and Glen Rose will paint or photograph gardens in the area to present in a show, April 2011. This will be in conjunction with the Master Gardner's conference held in Granbury. This is a great opportunity to paint in private gardens in the area.
