Summer Lotus by Sheri Jones

Summer Lotus by Sheri Jones
10x8 oil on canvas
I painted this at the Dallas Aboretum on Saturday.  It was growing in the same garden as the waterlily I painted earlier in the morning.  A common misconception is referring to the lotus as a waterlily but it is an entirely different plant as can be seen from the center of the flower which is a round seed pod.  The warm temperatures and moving light forced me to work quickly and this was my result. I painted this with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint. This is available for purchase.  $100.00

You have wonderful control with the pallet knife in capturing the lotus flower. The cool blues and the hot. pink and orange make a pleasing contrast
