Gladiolus Gone Wild, New Contemporary Floral Painting by Sheri Jones

Gladiolus Gone Wild

14x11 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I created a new series focusing on shapes, marks and colors. It all started when I set up an easel on my patio.  I paint in the garden surrounded by beautiful colors and shapes.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it.

I tried a different approach with this painting. I wanted to keep the background colorful and loose. I found the contrasting colors of the larkspur and sunflowers eye stopping. I applied the paint with a palette knife, creating the texture I was going for.

Spring Trail, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Spring Trail

12x9 on ampersand board

The delightful painting was inspired from the banks of the Brazos river.  The wild flowers provided pops of color.

Spending time in nature, painting, gathering ideas and observing are part of my process. I came home filled with ideas and created this.

River Impressions, New Contemporary Landcape Painting by Sheri Jones

River Impressions

8x10 oil on canvas

I had another opportunity to paint on the Brazos river in Granbury.  The path way on the bank of the river first caught my attention. The wild thistle plants added the color I was looking for.  This was another chance to push color and design.

River Bank

9x12 oil on canvas panel

I have painted at the river recently. The clouds were heavy and I painted gray paintings.  I needed color, so I came home and painted this adding the sun and wildflowers.  The brighter colors have inspired a whole new series with me. Stay tuned...

Prancing Primrose, New Contemporary Still life Painting by Sheri Jones

Prancing Primrose

14x11 oil on canvas

The primrose flower is a glorified weed in the Texas landscape. When they appeared in my garden I was thrilled. Now they grow wild and make excellent models.

I created this fun painting from the poppies growing in my garden. It's always a good day if I can paint in my own back yard.  I hope this brightens your day, like it did mine.

Along the Brazos River, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Along the Brazos River

8x10 oil on canvas

Painting on location in Granbury on the Brazos River.  This is actually in a "neighbor hood" with homes along this beautiful river.  I have friends that live here and love to get outside as much as I do.  I tried to keep my colors cool to reflect the cloudy day.  It was a challenge for me!
