These flowers are also called purple coneflowers and some of the species are used in herbal medicine and some are simply in gardens for their showy flowers.  They are tall and hardy summer flowers that can thrive in the Texas sun. I love these bright  pink daisies.

I painted this in the studio from photo I took at Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose. We were out scouting a place to paint and drove out to this resort. It's a hunting lodge and it was opening day. There were gunshots going off everywhere.  We were in a safe zone, but decided  keep driving.  I  liked the contrasting colors of the cattails and the lake.

I painted this in Waxahachie during the paint out last week. I was pretty pleased to find a place in the shade to paint. The large oak tree gave me plenty of protection from the bright sun. I loved the bright red geraniums dancing across the entry way.
